Versatile Applications

Auto Reclosers (ACRs) are widely used across different distribution networks, making them a reliable choice for enhancing power continuity and system stability.

Cost-Effective Solution

Investing in Auto Reclosers can save a lot of maintenance and replacement costs because they have a longer lifespan.

The advantages of our product

Enhanced Power Supply Reliability

Automatically senses and clears transient faults (like lightning strikes or temporary tree contact), then automatically recloses after a short delay to quickly restore power, preventing unnecessary, long-duration outages.

Rapid Fault Isolation & Location

Possesses precise fault detection capabilities. In the event of a permanent fault, it can swiftly execute lockout and isolate the faulty section, simultaneously providing fault indication to help personnel rapidly locate and rectify the issue.

Line and Equipment Protection

Offers multiple protection functions (such as overcurrent and short circuit protection). Through an optimized trip-reclose sequence, it effectively limits fault currents and arc energy, mitigating damage to lines, transformers, and other apparatus.

Flexible Control and Communication

Incorporates advanced microprocessor control units, supporting local/remote operation and flexible parameter setting. It can achieve advanced SCADA communication functions, including remote control, telemetry, and status indication.

Reduced Operation & Maintenance Costs

By automatically handling transient faults, it significantly reduces the need for manual field inspections and operations. Modular design and oil-free/vacuum interruption technology also lower routine maintenance requirements and long-term operational costs.

Durable and Eco-Friendly

Utilizes vacuum interrupter technology, eliminating the need for harmful gases like SF6, complying with environmental standards. It also features excellent mechanical and electrical endurance, suitable for harsh outdoor environments, ensuring long-term stable operation.

FAQ

Learn more about Air Circuit Breakers through these frequently asked questions.

What is an ACR (Automatic Circuit Recloser)?

An ACR is a medium-voltage protective device designed to automatically interrupt and re-establish current flow on an electrical distribution network. Its primary function is to protect the system by clearing temporary faults and restoring service without manual intervention.

How do ACRs work?

When a fault occurs, the ACR opens to interrupt the current. It then automatically recloses after a preset time delay. If the fault was temporary, power is restored. If the fault is permanent, the ACR executes a sequence (typically 1-3 trip-and-reclose operations) and then locks out (stays open) to isolate the faulty section.

Why use ACRs?

To significantly improve system reliability and power quality. Over 80% of faults in overhead lines are temporary. ACRs ensure that power is quickly restored after these temporary faults, minimizing outage time and reducing operational costs related to manual fault clearing.

What are the key components of an ACR system?

1. Vacuum Interrupter/Switching Mechanism: To safely interrupt the current and extinguish the arc. 2. Current Sensors (CTs): To detect fault currents. 3. Microprocessor Control Unit (Controller): The intelligence that stores settings, executes the sequence, and handles communication. 4. Operating Mechanism: The mechanical/magnetic part that opens and closes the interrupter.

How often should ACRs be tested and maintained?

Routine functional checks (e.g., verifying communication, battery health, and settings) should be done periodically (e.g., annually). Full mechanical and electrical testing, including checks on the vacuum interrupter and control unit, should follow the manufacturer’s recommendations, typically every 3–5 years or after a high-energy fault operation.

Can ACRs distinguish between temporary and permanent faults? (

Yes. The programmed reclosing sequence is the mechanism. It tries to reclose a few times (assuming the fault is temporary). If the fault persists after the final attempt, the ACR concludes it is a permanent fault (like a broken conductor) and locks out to isolate the section, requiring manual repair.

What types of faults can an ACR protect against?

Primarily Overcurrent Faults, including single-phase-to-ground faults and three-phase faults. Modern ACRs also offer advanced protection features like Sensitive Earth Fault (SEF) and Negative Phase Sequence (NPS) protection for greater security.

Are modern ACRs environmentally friendly?

Yes. Most modern ACRs use vacuum interrupters for arc extinction. This design is highly environmentally friendly as it eliminates the need for insulating mediums like SF6 gas or oil, which can pose environmental and maintenance challenges.

What voltage levels are ACRs typically used for?

ACRs are predominantly used in medium-voltage (MV) distribution systems, typically ranging from 11 kV up to 38 kV, though models for slightly higher voltages also exist. They are critical where overhead lines are exposed to environmental factors.

What communication standards do ACR controllers support?

Modern ACR controllers support standard utility protocols, most commonly DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-104. This enables seamless integration with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and smart grid monitoring systems for remote control and data logging.
